We warmly invite you to participate in our pre-programme prior to CologneMUN 2018!
On Wednesday, 06 June 2018, we are going to spend a day in the UN City of Bonn, located in close proximity to Cologne. Together we will explore some of the major sights, including a guided tour of the Bonn UN headquarters.
OUR PROGRAMME FOR THE DAY:
- Brühl Palaces
The Brühl Palaces, that is Augustusburg Palace and the smaller Falkenlust hunting lodge, are located halfway between Cologne and Bonn.
We are going to visit Augustusburg Palace. Completed in 1768, the palace is one of the first and finest examples of Rococo architecture. Together with Falkenlust and the beautiful palace gardens, it was inscribed on the UNESCO world heritage list in 1984.
- Tour of the UN headquarters in Bonn
The city of Bonn hosts a total of 20 UN institutions, including the headquarters of the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), and the UN Volunteers (UNV) programme. The main offices are located in the “Langer Eugen” skyscraper, which offers an amazing panoramic view of the city and the river Rhine. A UN employee will give us a guided tour and tell us about the work of the UN in Bonn and in the world.
- River Cruise
We will finish our day’s journey on one of the river cruise boats where you can relax and watch the beautiful German landscape pass by. We will exit the boat right where we started, close to Cologne central station.
PRICE: 25 EUR (includes train fares, entry fees, lunch package and river cruise)
After registering you will receive an email with your payment information.
Once back in Cologne, we hope to finish the day with you and the other conference members with a cosy get-together in one of our bars in the old city!
We will upload the complete itinerary as well as a packing list soon. Please bear in mind that you will have to bring official identification documents for the tour of the UN as well as your student ID cards for entry to the Brühl Palaces.
We hope to see you there!
