Committees

At CologneMUN 2025, delegates will step into the shoes of diplomats across a range of carefully selected committees, each reflecting this year’s theme: “Finding Common Ground in Times of Global Unrest.” Whether tackling security crises, humanitarian issues, or long-term policy challenges, our committees are designed to challenge, inspire, and deepen your understanding of international diplomacy.

From beginner-friendly General Assembly bodies to advanced crisis simulations, there’s a space for everyone—no matter your level of MUN experience. Scroll down to discover the committees and topics waiting for you in Cologne this year.

General Assembly

Level: Beginners

Where every nation has a voice — and every vote can shape the global agenda. Step into the world’s largest diplomatic stage.

Topic:  Strengthening Global Cooperation on Climate-Induced Migration

As climate change displaces millions, the world stands at a crossroads: respond with solidarity — or deepen global divides. This topic challenges you to rethink responsibility, borders, and justice in the face of a warming planet. Will your policies protect the most vulnerable or leave them behind?

UNHCR

Level: Beginners

More than just a humanitarian agency, UNHCR is the global voice for displaced people and the right to refuge. In an era of protracted crises and shifting borders, its mission is more vital — and more challenged — than ever. As global displacement reaches record highs, the call for protection, dignity, and durable solutions grows louder.

Topic: Ensuring Access to Education for Refugees in Protracted Crises

When displacement lasts for years, education can’t be an afterthought. This topic urges you to rethink how the international community ensures long-term learning opportunities for refugee children. Will you help prevent a lost generation — or allow barriers to education to deepen inequality?

United Nations Security Council

Level: Intermediate

The Security Council stands at the center of global peace and security efforts. Amid rising conflicts and geopolitical rivalries, its unity and resolve are constantly tested. As crises grow more complex and urgent, the Council’s ability to act decisively is more critical — and more challenged — than ever before.

Topic: The Overlooked Conflict: Ensuring peace and accountability in Myanmar’s Civil War

As Myanmar’s civil war rages on, global attention remains elsewhere. This topic challenges you to confront the Security Council’s role in ending violence, navigating great power interests, and upholding international accountability. Will you let geopolitics stall peace — or act before this crisis spirals further out of control?

NATO

Level: Intermediate

More than just a military alliance, NATO is a cornerstone of collective security and strategic cooperation. In a world of rising tensions and emerging powers, its unity — and adaptability — are being put to the test.

Topic: Strategic Partnerships with the Global South

As global influence tilts and new alliances emerge, NATO must look beyond its traditional borders. The Global South is not just a region — it’s a rising force in international politics. Can NATO forge meaningful partnerships rooted in mutual trust and cooperation? Or will its efforts be seen as outdated or one-sided?

Crisis Committee

Level: Expert

Crisis Committees bring urgency and action to unfolding global emergencies. In fast-moving and high-stakes scenarios, delegates must think on their feet and navigate complex challenges in real time. As situations evolve unpredictably, the pressure to deliver effective solutions makes the Crisis Committee one of the most dynamic and demanding bodies in the simulation.

Topic: The Taiwan Flashpoint: Cross-Strait Crisis in the Indo-Pacific

Tensions between Taiwan and China have brought the Indo-Pacific to a dangerous tipping point. This topic challenges you to navigate the complex geopolitical rivalries and security dilemmas shaping one of the world’s most volatile flashpoints. Will you escalate the crisis or work toward de-escalation and regional stability before conflict becomes inevitable?
